This Victorian silver tea caddy stands as a striking decorative vessel reflecting the Georgian Revival style. Produced around 1880, the urn-shaped body gleams in a bright polished silver finish. The piece consists of a domed pull-off lid topped with a round spherical finial, half-fluted sides, intricate gadrooning around the foot and collar, and detailed repoussé ornamentation incorporating flat chasing and scale pattern engraving. Multiple hallmarks appear along the metal surface to record its manufacturing, import, and retailing history across London. Measuring 14.5 cm in height, the caddy functions well as a refined tabletop accessory. Placed upon a dining room sideboard or a living room display table, the vessel adds a polished metallic accent to traditional interiors. The secure removable lid and substantial footed base allow the piece to sit safely on flat display surfaces while maintaining its classical aesthetic.

An antique silver tea caddy is a small vessel designed specifically to store loose tea leaves during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when tea was a costly commodity.

Traditional silver tea caddies were crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring repousse, chasing, or hand-engraved motifs with fitted lids to preserve freshness.

Authentic period silver tea caddies display official assay hallmarks indicating the silver purity, makers mark, location, and date code, alongside evidence of period craftsmanship such as hand-chasing.

Place the silver tea caddy on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or mantelpiece alongside contemporary glassware or ceramics to create a refined contrast of textures and eras.

Gently polish the surface using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive cleaners or dipping solutions that can remove delicate patination and details.
