This Georgian drinking glass is an 18th-century English lead crystal rummer. Made from clear glass, the piece stands 15 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 11 cm deep. The ovoid bowl features optic ribbed petal moulding on the lower section, while the short stem terminates in a circular foot with a lightly wrythen base knop and a broken pontil mark visible on the underside. Suited for a gentleman's library interior, the rummer functions as a display object on a sideboard top or serves wine, spirits, and beer for everyday dining. The clear material reveals the internal optical effects of the mouldings and the structural form of the foot and stem.

A rummer is a type of large drinking vessel with a wide bowl and short stem that became popular in Britain during the late 18th century for serving wine, punch, or toddy.

They were hand-blown using lead crystal or flint glass, incorporating hand-tooled rims, pontil marks on the base, and optical decorations like petal or wrythen moulding formed with dip moulds.

Authentic period examples generally show pontil marks or ground pontil scars on the underside of the base, subtle striations or air seeds within the metal, and slight irregularities inherent to hand-blown lead glass.

Glass rummers can be arranged on a dining room sideboard top, styled inside a glass-fronted cabinet, or placed on a home bar tray alongside period decanters.

They should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using a mild washing-up liquid and dried with a soft lint-free cloth, avoiding dishwashers and sudden temperature variations.
