Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late 19th-century French provincial narrow food cupboard presents a tall pine construction finished in a dark blue paint. The piece includes a stepped cornice, recessed panels on the upper and lower doors, a central drawer fitted with two round wooden knobs, and decorative metal escutcheons on the left sides of the doors. Visible details encompass the vertical panel divisions on the top cabinet door, the square-framed panel on the lower cabinet door, and the straightforward rectangular profile. Measuring 192 cm high, 69 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, the vertical proportions allow this storage unit to fit into narrow hallways, compact kitchens, or rustic farmhouse dining areas where floor space is limited. The upper and lower compartments provide practical shelving and drawer capacity for organising household items, tableware, or dry goods.

FAQs

A French provincial narrow cupboard is a freestanding wooden storage cabinet originating from rural France, designed with a small footprint to maximise vertical space in compact living areas.

Regional French furniture was primarily constructed from local woods such as oak, pine, fruitwood, or chestnut, joined with traditional mortise and tenon carpentry and finished with mineral or milk paints.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery, hand-forged iron escutcheons, natural wear to paint layers near contact points, and structural timber showing age-consistent shrinkage or oxidation.

A slim painted cupboard functions well as an alcove storage unit, a dining room larder, or a hallway cabinet, providing functional enclosed storage without overcrowding floor space.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners, keeping the wood clear of excess moisture and protecting original paint layers with a neutral microcrystalline wax.
