Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Champlevé enamel inlays in muted mineral tones: workshop production around 1900.
Cast geometric key-fret background: Meiji-period interpretation of archaic bronzes.
Dark brown patination settled into the recessed casting: untouched aged surface.
Turned wooden base and wired neck: electric adaptation of a period vase.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Meiji period Japanese table lamp dates from 1900 and uses a dark brown cast bronze vase on a round turned wooden base. The design includes champleve enamel bands with polychrome green, blue, yellow, and red motifs, archaic bird decorations, four simulated cabochons on the top, and two metal ring handles. An old-style fabric cable connects the fitting to a pleated white fabric shade. The original old patination remains unrestored on both the bronze and the enamel. The item measures 56 cm high, 34 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. A lamp of this style suits a gentleman's library, study, or living room, standing on a sideboard top, desk, or side table to provide ambient lighting.

Champleve is an enamelling technique where recessed cells carved into cast bronze are filled with vitreous enamel paste and fired. In late 19th and early 20th century Japan, bronze vessels crafted in this style were frequently produced for export and later adapted into electrical table lamps.

These lamps consist of a heavy cast bronze body decorated with opaque vitreous enamels, often mounted on turned timber or metal bases and fitted with brass light sockets and fabric shades.

Authentic pieces feature cast bronze vessels showing hand-carved recesses, archaic bird or geometric enamel motifs, naturally aged surface patination, and evidence of historical wiring conversions.

Position the lamp on a dark timber sideboard, console table, or writing desk to create a focused ambient light source that adds historical texture to contemporary or traditional schemes.

Dust the bronze base regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid chemical polishes or abrasive cleansers that can damage the enamel and original surface patination.
