Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Champleve is a decorative technique where troughs or cells are carved, cast, or etched into the surface of a metal object, such as bronze, and subsequently filled with vitreous enamel paste. The object is fired and polished flat, creating defined compartments of coloured glass paste set against the surrounding exposed metal.

These pieces traditionally feature heavy cast bronze bodies decorated with vitreous enamel in mineral-based pigments such as turquoise, red, green, and dark blue. Mounting bases are often turned hardwood, and modern wiring is paired with fabric or silk pleated shades.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit significant physical weight due to thick bronze casting, along with subtle surface irregularities in the enamel work. Look for cast-in handles, geometric or archaistic patterning influenced by early Chinese bronzes, and honest surface patination consistent with age.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a long sideboard, console table, or wide buffet creates structural balance in a living or dining space. Neutral pleated shades diffuse the light effectively while allowing the polychrome metal bases to remain the central decorative feature.

Dust metal and enamel surfaces with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or gentle brush, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners that can damage vintage patination. Fabric shades should be cleaned using a vacuum brush attachment on a low setting.
