This Victorian bedside cabinet takes a cylindrical drum form, rendered in a polished warm brown figured mahogany veneer that displays natural grain patterns and highlights the curved timber construction. The Victorian style piece includes an inset marble top, a moulded circular base, and a single curved door fitted with a small brass latch mechanism on the right side. Within the door, a single shelf provides storage space for bedside items. The object stands at 68.5 cm high, 39.4 cm wide, and 39.4 cm deep. Positioned beside a bed, the compact cupboard functions as a bedside table in a traditional bedroom scheme, offering a surface for lamps or nighttime necessities while concealing interior storage within its solid wooden body.

Originally designed in the 18th and 19th centuries, pot cupboards were constructed to enclose chamber pots discreetly in bedrooms prior to the introduction of indoor plumbing.

Craftsmen predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, frequently incorporating flame veneers and inset marble tops to protect the wood from liquid contact.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass fittings, secondary linings made from pine or oak, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

These compact circular cabinets function effectively as bedside tables or as small side tables positioned beside armchairs in contemporary living spaces.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a dry cloth, apply beeswax sparingly along the direction of the grain, and clean marble tops using a non-abrasive, pH-neutral solution.
