An Edwardian silver casket is a small lined or unlined silver container produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910). These pieces were traditionally designed for dressing tables to hold jewellery, trinkets, or small personal items.

These caskets were predominantly fashioned from sterling silver, formed via raising or pressing techniques, and fitted with hinged lids. Many features included soldered footings, cast embellishments, and velvet or silk linings.

Authentic British silver of this era bears official assay marks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark (such as an anchor for Birmingham), a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

An antique silver casket functions as a decorative accent on a bedside table, dressing table, or entryway console, serving as both a historical focal point and functional storage for small objects.

Preserve the metal by dusting regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and polishing occasionally using a specialized silver cream. Avoid abrasive cleaners and store in low-humidity environments to minimize oxidisation.
