These Victorian ceiling lights comprise a matched pair of English hall lanterns from the early 20th century. Each piece is constructed from warm brass with glass panels, forming a hexagonal frame suspended from chains. The design includes a scrolled corona, foliage finials, and acorn terminals at the base, along with a triple light cluster inside featuring circular millgrain bobeche drip pans and candle sconces. The visual details extend to floral pierced embellishments and decorative scrolling framework holding the glass panes. Measuring 82 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, these fixtures are suited for illuminating hallways, entryways, or high-ceilinged reception rooms in an English country house interior. The electrical components have been fully rewired, and the set includes bulbs and ceiling fixings for domestic installation.

Hall lanterns traditionally emerged in 18th and 19th-century English homes as enclosed glass fixtures designed to protect candle or gas flames from draughts in entryways.

Most period lanterns were constructed using cast or cast-and-spun brass frames fitted with clear glass panels and central candle clusters or light fittings.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit hand-cast decorative details, maker stamps on the frame, subtle variations in original glass panels, and natural oxidisation within crevices.

A pair of antique lanterns works well suspended above a kitchen island, lining an entrance hall corridor, or positioned over a dining table to add historical structure.

Clean glass panels with a mild vinegar solution, and gently dust the metal frame using a dry microfibre cloth without harsh chemical polishes to protect aged patina.
