This late Georgian small clear glass tumbler dates from the beginning of the nineteenth century around 1820. Formed of hand-blown clear lead glass, the bucket-shaped bowl features a tapered body, a plain middle section, a thickened base, and an applied cobalt blue glass rim around the top opening. Age-related wear and tear is visible to the rim of the base, alongside a polished out pontil mark on the underside and minor surface variations typical of early production. The piece stands 6 cm high, 5.5 cm wide, and 3.9 cm deep. Today, this drinkware piece suits display on a sideboard top in an English country house interior. The diminutive size functions well for serving small portions of spirits or liqueurs during gatherings or after-dinner drinks. Alternatively, the vessel provides a decorative accent when placed empty on open shelving, or serves as a small desk accessory to hold paperclips or nibs. Maintenance requires gentle hand washing with lukewarm water and a soft cloth to preserve the historic glass surface.

A Georgian glass tumbler is a cylindrical or slightly tapered drinking vessel produced during the Georgian era, spanning from 1714 to 1830. These pieces were crafted using hand-blown glass techniques and often featured thick bases or decorative coloured rims.

Georgian tumblers were typically made from lead crystal or soda glass using free-blowing or mold-blowing techniques. Decorative elements, such as applied cobalt blue glass rims, were added while the glass was molten prior to annealing.

Authentic Georgian glassware often displays a visible snapped or polished pontil mark on the base where the glassmakers rod was attached. Additionally, period glass exhibits slight asymmetry, minor air bubbles within the matrix, and natural wear patterns on the base rim.

Antique tumblers can be styled on open shelving, bar carts, or sideboard trays alongside contemporary glassware. They also serve as functional decorative vessels for small floral arrangements or desk accessories.

Hand-blown antique glass should be washed gently by hand in lukewarm water using a mild liquid soap. Avoid extreme temperature changes, abrasive sponges, and dishwashers to prevent thermal shock and surface scratching.
