Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A traditional hall lantern features framed glass panels, often shaped or curved, surrounding a central light source. Originating in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these hanging fixtures were designed for hallways and vestibules to protect candle flames from drafts while maximising illumination.

Classic pendant lanterns are constructed from cast or stamped brass frameworks holding individually cut glass panes. The metal joins are secured with solder or rivets, and decorative elements such as serrated edging, leaf motifs, and cast finials are integrated into the frame.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut or mouth-blown glass with subtle imperfections or air bubbles, along with natural patination on the brass components. Look for hand-soldered joints, cast brass fittings, and historical electrical rewiring or original candle fittings.

A brass glass lantern serves as a focal point when suspended in an entryway, stairwell, or above a dining space. It bridges classic and contemporary decor by adding architectural structure and warm metal tones to neutral color schemes.

Clean the glass panels using a soft microfibre cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild glass cleaner. To preserve the aged patina of the brass frame, avoid abrasive metal polishes and gently dust the metalwork with a dry brush or soft cloth.
