Nineteenth-century Bohemian opaline glass is characterised by its opaque or translucent appearance, often mimicking porcelain, and was frequently hand-painted or heavily gilded with intricate floral and scroll motifs.

These items were crafted from lead-free silicate glass blown into moulds or free-blown, then finished with fire-polishing, cold-painting, and applied gold leaf or fire gilding on brass mounts.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-applied gilding wear consistent with age, pontil marks on the base, historical metal mounts, and weight characteristic of heavy-gauge nineteenth-century glass.

This item adds a touch of historical refinement when placed on a dressing table, bedside unit, or open shelving as a focal point among minimalist or eclectic decor.

Preserve the fragile gilding and surface by dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid submerging in water, chemical cleaners, or exposing the piece to direct sunlight for extended periods.
