Miles Griffiths Antiques Ltd has dated this Welsh Oak Grain Chest to the 17th Century.
This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.
These Welsh early period oak antique chests were used to store cornmeal, the domed ark top lifts off and were used as large troughs to transfer the cornmeal to the grinding wheel or kitchen. This is a superb example that has a five fielded panel front with panelled sides, made to come apart with large oak pegs. Originally from North Wales in Snowdonia and dates to around 1640. Ideal for log storage or outdoor gear that is only needed occasionally. A wonderful thing.
