FAQs

The George III style spans the second half of the 18th century, characterised by neoclassical influences, refined proportions, and the expert use of quality timbers such as mahogany.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid mahogany, pine or oak for secondary framing, and often incorporated brass handles, hinges, and tambour slats for flexible enclosure.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage, historical patina on the brassware, and the precise mechanical construction of the sliding tambour mechanism.

Position the piece alongside contemporary minimalist furnishings to highlight its rich grain, using the surface for understated lighting or simple decorative ceramics.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
