This unusual large Edwardian water jug originates from around 1900. The piece displays a tall, tapered pink cranberry glass body with a crackle glass finish, paired with a silver-plated collar, a short shaped spout, and a geometric angular metal handle. The metal hardware shows subtle tarnishing and a polished finish, contrasting with the textured pink glassware. Standing at 32 cm high, 13 cm wide and 20 cm deep, it provides a practical vessel for everyday dining use. In a contemporary interior, this water jug sits comfortably on a dining table, a kitchen island, or a sideboard top. It functions well as a serving piece for water or cordials during meals, and serves equally effectively as a decorative flower vase filled with seasonal blooms. The classic English country house aesthetic integrates easily into both traditional and modern table settings, adding a touch of period colour to the room.

Cranberry glass is a red or pink tinted glass produced by adding gold salts to molten glass. Popular throughout the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, it was frequently crafted into decorative pitchers, decanters, and tableware.

Crackle glass, also known as iced glass, was created by dipping molten hot glass into cold water during the blowing process. The sudden temperature change caused the outer layer to fracture, after which the glass was reheated and shaped to seal the crackled texture.

Authentic pieces from the period feature makers marks or silver-plate hallmarks stamped on the metal collar or lid. The glass often exhibits hand-blown details such as a smoothed pontil scar at the base and minor natural variations in density.

A cranberry glass jug works well as a decorative accent on a dining room sideboard or kitchen dresser. It can also function as a flower vase or be grouped with other antique glassware on a window sill to catch natural light.

Wash the glass body gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild dish soap, avoiding extreme temperature shifts that could damage crackle glass. Use a specialist silver polishing cloth on the metal collar while taking care not to submerge whole metal fittings in water.
