This Edwardian cranberry glass decanter dates from around 1900 in the English Country House style. The piece combines a vibrant cranberry red bulbous body with a slender neck, a frilled rim, and a clear applied handle at the side, finished with an original teardrop-shaped clear glass stopper. Visible details include smooth glass surfaces, the contrast between the dark red body and the transparent handle and stopper, and a wavy top moulding. Measuring 34 cm high, 14 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, the decanter is well-sized for functional service or display. Placed on a sideboard top, it brings traditional colour and glassware craftsmanship to a dining room or living space today.

Cranberry glass is a red-tinted glass produced by adding gold salts or oxide to molten glass batch prior to blowing. Popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, it was frequently crafted into decanters, jugs, and decorative tableware.

Antique cranberry glass is typically hand-blown, often featuring applied clear glass elements such as handles, feet, or rims. The ruby-red colouration results from precise chemical reactions involving gold chloride during heat treatment.

Authentic pieces display slight hand-blown variations, polished pontil marks on the base, and applied clear glass details with distinct join marks. The colour is integrated throughout the body rather than painted or flashed onto the glass surface.

Position the decanter on a sideboard, tray, or window sill where light can illuminate the coloured glass. Pairing red glass with brass trays or dark wood surfaces creates contrasting tones in modern and traditional spaces.

Wash by hand using warm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding abrasive sponges or dishwashers that cause surface clouding. Ensure the interior is thoroughly dry before reinserting the glass stopper.
