The Queen Anne style, prominent in the early 18th century and later revived, is characterised by curved lines, cabriole legs, pad feet, and an emphasis on comfort and graceful proportions rather than heavy ornamentation.

These pieces were typically constructed from hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or mahogany, often featuring upholstered drop-in seats covered in wool tapestry, needlepoint, or damask fabrics.

Authentication involves examining the joinery, timber ageing, tool marks, and the type of secondary wood used underneath, as well as assessing the wear patterns on the wooden feet and upholstery.

An antique footstool can be used as an accent piece in a living room, positioned beside a modern sofa, or utilised as a vanity seat in a bedroom to introduce texture and historic character.

Maintain the timber by applying microcrystalline wax periodically, avoid placing the item in direct sunlight to protect the textile fibres, and clean the tapestry gently with a soft brush attachment.
