Late 18th-century English glass is typically characterised by hand-blown or mould-blown techniques, often featuring lead metal content that gives the material a distinct weight and clarity.

Coloured glass in this era was achieved by adding metallic oxides, such as manganese or cobalt, into the molten glass batch before blowing the vessel into a metal or wooden mould.

Authentic pieces often exhibit a polished pontil mark on the base, minor surface imperfections such as tiny air bubbles, and characteristic wear consistent with age.

Antique glass vessels add a layer of historic texture and rich colour when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or used functionally as small vases for single stems.

Antique glass should be washed gently by hand in lukewarm water using a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh abrasive sponges to protect the delicate surface.
