Art Deco Burr Walnut and Leather Stool

1920 - 1940
Description

A stunning Art Deco burr walnut and leather stool. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

This is of superb quality, it is a lovely and very useful size. It would be perfect for an entry way, at the foot of a bed or in various other settings around the home. The base has gorgeous burr walnut grain patterns, it wraps all the way round so this looks identical front and back.

We have had the walnut stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the cream leather upholstery has been re-done fairly recently. This is in superb overall condition, with just some incredibly minor wear to the leather that is barely noticeable at all.

An Art Deco stool dating from 1930, made in England from burr walnut and leather. The piece features a cream leather upholstered top cushion positioned above a figured golden brown burr walnut plinth base with shaped bracket cutouts along the bottom edge. The wood grain wraps continuously around the base, presenting a uniform appearance from all viewing angles, and the polished timber finish complements the soft upholstery. The item measures 33 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Positioned easily in various domestic settings, this piece works particularly well placed at the foot of a bed or situated in an entryway. The low profile and compact dimensions allow it to serve as a practical occasional seat or footrest while adding period character to contemporary living spaces. The refined materials bring understated warmth to interior layouts without overwhelming surrounding furnishings.

Art Deco seating from the 1920s and 1930s features streamlined geometric silhouettes, low profiles, and contrasting textures such as highly figured wood veneers and soft leather upholstery.

Pieces from this era typically combine high-grade exotic wood veneers, such as burr walnut or macassar ebony, with leather, velvet, or woven fabric upholstery over solid timber frames.

Look for characteristic design elements including stepped or plinth bases, clean geometric lines, symmetrical burr walnut veneer pattern matching, and traditional interior webbing construction.

Position the piece at the foot of a bed, beneath a console table, or alongside a contemporary sofa arrangement to introduce texture and historic visual grounding.

Keep the item away from direct radiators and sunlight to prevent veneer cracking and leather drying, applying specialized wax polish and leather cream periodically.
