Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century English West Country kitchen dresser is made of oak with a warm brown finish, glass, and brass hardware. The two-part piece consists of a glazed upper section with a green painted interior enclosing shelves, sitting above a base fitted with five drawers and two panelled cupboard doors. The upper and lower sections display simple mouldings around the doors and drawers, while the brass hardware includes swan neck handles on the drawers and small circular knobs on the cupboards. The timber exhibits natural grain variations and minor surface wear consistent with age. Measuring 192 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 192 cm deep, this kitchen dresser serves as practical storage furniture in a modern kitchen, dining room, or living area. The upper glazed cabinet holds everyday crockery, glassware, or decorative objects, while the lower drawers and enclosed cupboards store table linen, cutlery, and kitchen accessories. The traditional English country design suits both period properties and contemporary country-style interiors.

FAQs

A West Country kitchen dresser is a traditional piece of regional English country furniture featuring a storage base of drawers and cupboards topped with open or glazed shelving, originally crafted for utilitarian food preparation and display.

Regional dressers were predominantly constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine, using traditional joinery methods including hand-cut dovetail joints and wooden peg fastenings.

Authenticity can be verified by examining hand-planed backboards, hand-cut dovetails on drawer linings, uneven glass panes, and period-correct brass hardware such as swan-neck handles.

In contemporary spaces, a glazed dresser can serve as a focal display cabinet in a dining room or kitchen, styled with neutral ceramics, glassware, or folded linens against its contrasting painted lining.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding modern aerosol sprays or damp cloths that could damage historic wood finishes.
