Victorian naturalistic silver often incorporates organic forms such as leaves, flowers, animals, and insects, reflecting the periods fascination with the natural world and advancements in casting techniques.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as casting, hammering, chasing, and repousse work to achieve highly detailed textures.

Authentic pieces generally feature clear hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date letter corresponding to the Victorian era, alongside characteristic heavy gauge silver and hand-finished detailing.

Antique silver items add texture and reflective quality to a room, working well when displayed on sideboards, open shelving, or used functionally on a dining table to create a curated mix of old and new.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the patina and fine details, avoiding harsh dips that can strip desirable oxidisation.
