Description

A well-proportioned Edwardian era Arts & Crafts bedside cabinet, constructed in well-figured quarter-sawn oak with a rich golden colour. The top has a gently moulded edge and is finished with a low rear gallery, above a single panelled door, opening to a spacious interior, all standing on attractive tapering legs with gently flared, stylised feet.

A modest but well-made honest piece, its slim proportions make it easy to place. It would suit a bedroom, bathroom or even a smart hallway where extra storage is needed.

Presented in very good antique condition with only light age-related surface wear. Structurally solid, with a smooth-opening door, clean and ready to place in the home.

English, c.1910.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late nineteenth century as a reaction against mass production, emphasising traditional craftsmanship, visible construction methods, and the inherent qualities of natural materials like solid oak.

Pieces from this period frequently utilise solid quarter-sawn oak featuring distinctive medullary rays, traditional mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails, and understated metal hardware such as brass or blackened iron.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, timber shrinkage consistent with age, hand-cut joinery, and secondary woods on interior components, as opposed to modern machine-made fixings and uniform synthetic finishes.

An antique oak cabinet adds warmth, historical texture, and grounded character to contemporary spaces, functioning effectively as a bedside table or a compact occasional unit that contrasts cleanly with minimalist surroundings.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
