The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830, a period defined by exceptional craftsmanship, classical proportions, and the introduction of imported timbers like mahogany.

Cabinetmakers during this era predominantly used solid mahogany, often combined with veneers for figured grain patterns, alongside secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings and carcases, complemented by cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, original patination, period-correct brass fixings, and construction methods characteristic of pre-industrial workshops.

Pairing historical timber furniture with contemporary minimalist surroundings creates a sophisticated contrast, allowing the natural warmth and rich grain of the wood to act as a focal point in a neutral room.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking, applying occasional quality beeswax, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
