Description

A superb antique burr walnut cocktail drinks cabinet, dating from around the 1920’s period.

The quality is outstanding, the top section is burr walnut, the base is solid walnut & the insides of the cabinet are sycamore.

There is also a mirrored pull out shelf for serving drinks. The doors have etched brass escutcheons and we have a key.

There are fine carvings all over this cabinet, on the top edges and in particular on the base section, which are incredibly detailed, so please enlarge all the images to appreciate all the fine details. This cabinet is a very solid well made piece of furniture and is quite heavy.

Fortunately, it separates into two sections for easier transportation.

The condition is excellent for its age, we have just had it re-polished. There is just some minor wear and patina remaining here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut veneer has been prized for its intricate, swirling grain patterns since the late seventeenth century, experiencing significant revivals during the Victorian and Art Deco periods for high-end cabinetry.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid secondary timbers such as oak or pine, overlaid with highly figured burr walnut veneers, and are assembled using traditional joinery alongside cast brass or bronze hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the consistency of the hand-cut dovetail joints, the natural oxidisation and grain depth of the timber veneer, and the casting quality of the interior and exterior metal fittings.

Pairing this traditional statement piece with contemporary minimalist seating or placing it against a moody, saturated wall colour creates a sophisticated contrast that highlights the rich texture of the wood.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, and apply a microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish and protect the polished surface.
