Georgian glass decanters emerged during the 18th and early 19th centuries as wealth and dining culture expanded, evolving from simple globular bottles into heavily cut, facet-necked vessels designed for serving wine and spirits at the dining table.

These items were traditionally hand-blown from lead crystal or flint glass, then finished with hand-cut fluting, panel cutting, or engraving, and paired with a hand-ground matching stopper to ensure an airtight seal.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, hand-ground stoppers that fit uniquely to the individual neck, and a heavier weight due to higher lead content in the glass.

An antique decanter can be displayed on a mirrored tray on a sideboard or bar cart to catch the light, or utilized functionally to serve vintage spirits during formal dinner parties.

They should be washed gently by hand using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives and sudden temperature changes, and stored upright with the stopper slightly ajar to prevent moisture trapping.
