FAQs

Chinese porcelain vase lamps are typically created by converting traditional exported vases, ginger jars, or vessels into functional lighting fixtures, a practice that gained significant popularity in European and American interiors during the 19th and 20th centuries to showcase exotic craftsmanship.

These pieces generally utilise high-fired hard-paste porcelain decorated with polychrome enamel pigments, often mounted on bespoke brass or bronze bases to accommodate electrical fittings during the conversion process.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate potting characteristics, hand-painted details with fine crazing or age-related wear beneath the glaze, and traditional base constructions rather than modern slip-cast uniformity.

A diminutive porcelain vase lamp adds a focal point of colour, pattern, and texture when placed on a bedside table, desk, or bookshelf, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary spaces.

Dust the porcelain gently with a dry, soft cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners that could damage the enamel overglaze, and ensure the electrical components are periodically tested by a qualified professional.
