Victorian furniture, produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), encompasses a range of revival styles that transitioned from heavy, ornate mahogany and walnut pieces to lighter aesthetic movement designs later in the period.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood, often featuring secondary structural timbers like pine or oak for drawer linings and internal framing.

Authenticity is identified through traditional construction methods, including hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-turned wooden knobs, original brass or iron hardware, and natural patina resulting from decades of oxidisation.

Pairing dark wood antique pieces with contemporary minimalist elements, neutral walls, and streamlined lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the historical texture and warmth of the timber.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain.
