A rare pair of 18th century Georgian taper candlesticks made of Old Sheffield plate, silver, and copper. Each candlestick has a silver-plated finish in silver with copper bleed visible on the raised edges, and stands on a gadrooned square base with foliate relief ornament and an unengraved cartouche. The construction includes a spiral fluted column and an acanthus leaf capital. Each candlestick measures 19.5 cm high, 19.5 cm wide, and 19.5 cm deep. These candlesticks suit placement on a sideboard top in a dining room or living room. They bring traditional Georgian elegance to a home interior, functioning as a practical display or table setting piece. The condition is very good overall with no dents or splits, though one candlestick is missing its felt base and one exhibits slightly more copper bleed than the other.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to a historic process invented in the 18th century where silver was fused onto copper ingots before being rolled into sheets and crafted into tableware.

These candlesticks were fashioned from fused silver and copper sheets, shaped using die-stamped components, and soldered together with weighted bases to provide stability.

Authentic pieces frequently show silver bleeding where the underlying copper exposed through light wear, along with folded seams and die-struck maker marks rather than electroplated finishes.

Arrange them as a symmetrical pair on a dining table, mantelpiece, or console table to introduce warm metallic highlights and classic architectural proportions.

Dust regularly with a dry cotton cloth and apply non-abrasive silver foam or polish sparingly to preserve the thin fused silver layer without excessive rubbing.
