Facet stem glasses emerged in Britain during the mid-to-late 18th century, largely replacing air twist and opaque twist stems as grinding and polishing techniques advanced following the introduction of tax laws based on glass weight.

These glasses were typically hand-blown using lead metal glass, featuring bowls and feet shaped by hand tools, while the stems were meticulously cut and polished on a wheel to create distinct geometric facets.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the base, minor irregularities in the glass, hand-cut facets with soft edges, and the characteristic heavy weight and refractive index of period lead glass.

Antique stemware adds historical texture when displayed inside glass-fronted cabinets, utilized on bar carts, or styled as a single stem vase for delicate seasonal botanicals.

Wash antique glass exclusively by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and never placing them in a dishwasher.
