Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian bedside cabinets, often referred to as pot cupboards, evolved during the 19th century to house chamber pots discreetly and provide a convenient surface next to the bed for personal items and lighting.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like walnut or mahogany, frequently featuring inset white marble tops to provide a hygienic, easily cleaned surface resistant to water and cosmetic spills.

Authentic pieces exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints in drawer construction, traditional timber shrinkage patterns, and period-appropriate hardware like turned wooden knobs and brass fixings.

A vintage marble-topped cabinet adds historical texture and contrast when placed next to a modern upholstered bed, serving as a functional surface for a contemporary lamp or decorative ceramics.

Maintain the wood using quality beeswax or microcrystalline wax applied sparingly, and protect the marble surface from acidic substances like citrus or alcohol using coasters and trays.
