This Art Deco period decorative plate from 1930 is an opalescent glass coupe plate designed by Rene Lalique. The piece is crafted in opalescent blue glass with a translucent finish, displaying a repeating moulded campanula floral relief motif and a scalloped rim, featuring a stencilled mark to the centre. The glass exhibits a rich interplay of milky white and blue tones across the bellflower heads that transition to clear areas towards the centre. The object measures 31.5 cm wide. Today, this decorative plate suits placement on a sideboard top as a standalone display piece or within a curated collection of Art Deco glass. The sophisticated design and distinctive material lend themselves well to traditional and contemporary interior settings alike, where the play of light through the opalescent surface can be fully appreciated.

Rene Lalique opalescent glass refers to French decorative art glass produced during the early twentieth century, characterised by a milky blue translucency achieved through chemical formulation and specialized cooling techniques.

Opalescent glass was created by introducing chemical agents such as fluorides or bone ash into molten glass, which crystallized during controlled cooling to create light-refracting optical qualities.

Authentic Rene Lalique pieces from the 1920s and 1930s feature crisp moulded details alongside signatures such as R. LALIQUE or R. LALIQUE FRANCE, rendered in wheel-engraved or moulded lettering.

Display opalescent glass pieces on open shelving, glass consoles, or illuminated display cases where direct light highlights the subtle colour variations within the glass.

Clean gently by hand using warm water and mild dish detergent, avoiding abrasive cloths, dishwashers, or sudden temperature changes that could cause thermal shock.
