Art Nouveau flourished between 1890 and 1910, characterised by organic motifs inspired by natural forms, plant stems, and flowers, frequently applied to functional desk objects like inkwells.

Edwardian inkwells commonly combined heavy-cut or moulded glass bases with sterling silver collars, hinges, and lids, often featuring hallmarked precious metals.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver components, which indicate the assay office, date letter, and makers mark, alongside period-appropriate manufacturing techniques.

An antique inkwell functions as an elegant desk accessory or shelf object, adding textural contrast and historical character to contemporary office spaces or studies.

Silver components should be cleaned gently with a non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding contact with the glass, while the glass base requires only warm soapy water and a soft cloth to prevent damage.
