Caddy spoons were specifically designed in the 18th and 19th centuries to measure loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, becoming highly decorative during the Victorian era.

While most caddy spoons are made of sterling silver, they were also historically crafted from silver gilt, bone, ivory, shell, and occasionally pewter.

Authentic pieces are identified through hallmarks stamped into the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a duty mark, and a date letter corresponding to the assay office.

Antique silver items can be showcased in glass-fronted cabinets, displayed on wall-mounted shadow boxes, or integrated into tablescapes as functional decor.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a soft microfibre cloth and a specialist non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding harsh scrubbing to preserve any hand-engraved details and natural patina.
