Description

This large fine pair of communion chalices are made of Old Sheffield Plate. Bearing no makers marks, but engraved on inlaid silver cartouches for 'Ardrossan Free Church 1844'. They are visibly seamed and with gilded interiors.

In good condition with very slight surface wear to the the plating. Very slight ripple to the rims due to age and use.

Total weight approx 1.1kg.

Height approx 22.5cm

Base diameter approx 10.5cm.

Diameter at rim approx 11.5cm

Old Sheffield Plate is an early form of silver plating created by fusing a sheet of silver to a copper ingot, predominantly manufactured in Sheffield, England, from the mid-18th century until the introduction of electroplating in the 1840s.
