Description

A smart and very well made pair of antique mahogany bedside cabinets. They were made in England, they date from around the 1890-1910 period.

They are of superb quality and are a good size, with a useful and practical design. The backs are polished, they could be used as free standing items and would work well in a living room setting as occasional lamp tables.

We have had them re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age. They have some normal surface wear and patina here and there, commensurate for age. One cabinet has some small holes in the upper back section, probably made at some point for feeding cables through.

Width – 14 inches , 36 cm

Depth – 13 inches , 33 cm

Height – 29 inches , 73 cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bedside cabinets evolved during the 18th and 19th centuries from small cupboards used to house chamber pots into dedicated bedside storage units for personal items and books as domestic sanitation improved.

Authentic period cabinets are typically crafted from solid timbers and veneers like mahogany, featuring traditional joinery such as dovetail drawers and hand-carved details, often fitted with brass hardware.

Authentication involves examining timber patination, tool marks, joinery methods, and hardware consistency to ensure construction aligns with known historical periods rather than modern reproductions.

They can be integrated into contemporary bedrooms by pairing them with minimalist lighting and neutral bedding to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
