FAQs

Salad servers gained popularity during the Victorian era as specialized dining implements became more prevalent in middle and upper-class households, often featuring decorative engraving and organic handles.

These utensils typically combined silver plate or sterling silver working ends with natural materials like turned oak, ivory, or bone for the handles.

Authenticity is usually determined by inspecting the metal hallmarks, the style of hand-engraving, the construction methods of the handle joint, and the natural patina of the wood and metal.

They can be used functionally during dinner parties or displayed on open shelving or within glass-fronted cabinets to add historical texture and metallic contrast to contemporary interiors.

Items should be hand-washed immediately after use with mild soap, dried thoroughly, and polished periodically with a non-abrasive silver cleaner while keeping wooden handles conditioned with appropriate oils.
