A Heemskerk candlestick is a distinctive type of brass lighting originating in the Netherlands during the late 17th century, characterised by its bell-shaped base, central drip pan, and multi-baluster stem.

These pieces were typically cast in yellow brass using multi-part sand moulds or lost-wax techniques, then finished on a lathe to refine the turned details and polished.

Authentic examples often display heavy weight, uneven patination, casting flaws consistent with period manufacturing, and evidence of hand-finishing rather than modern machine tooling.

Such pieces bring warmth and historical texture to contemporary spaces, working well on mantelpieces, sideboards, or bookshelf displays alongside natural materials like timber and stone.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft dry cloth and avoiding aggressive chemical polishes that strip away the valuable historical patina and oxidation.
