Claret jugs gained immense popularity in Britain during the Victorian era as formal dining became a central aspect of middle and upper-class social life, requiring specialised vessels for serving red wine.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead crystal or heavy flint glass, featuring hand-blown bodies decorated with deep wheel-cut or diamond-cut geometric patterns.

Authenticity is indicated by heavy weight, hand-polished pontil marks on the base, characteristic high-lead refractive clarity, and period-appropriate cutting styles.

This piece can be displayed on a sideboard, bar cart, or dining table, where light can refract through the cut glass, adding historical texture to modern spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in warm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and dried thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
