Dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries, linen presses were originally designed to store household linens flat under pressure to prevent creasing, later evolving to serve as bedroom wardrobes.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or pine with fine veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and pegged mortise and tenon joinery on the main framework.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct characteristics such as hand-turned drawer linings, aged brass hardware, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and construction methods predating modern machine tools.

A substantial antique wooden cabinet acts as a focal point in a master bedroom or spacious hallway, grounding modern neutral decor with historical depth and rich texture.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and apply high-quality beeswax periodically to nourish the grain and preserve the original finish.
