Victorian glassware encompasses a vast array of functional and decorative pieces produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), characterised by technological advancements in pressing, cutting, and acid-etching that allowed for ornate ornamentation and diverse styles ranging from gothic revivals to naturalistic flora.

These items were predominantly crafted from flint glass, lead crystal, or lime glass, utilising techniques such as free-blowing, mould-blowing, wheel-engraving, and later in the period, acid-etching to achieve frosted decorative motifs.

Authenticity is determined by examining pontil marks on the base, minor irregularities or air bubbles within the glass matrix indicative of period hand-manufacturing, weight distribution, and characteristic wear patterns such as base scratching.

In contemporary interiors, antique stemware adds a layer of historical texture and tactile contrast when displayed within open shelving, traditional glazed cabinets, or utilised thoughtfully during dining occasions.

Care involves gentle hand washing in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden thermal shock, and never placing antique glassware in a dishwasher.
