This Victorian vase is a nineteenth-century piece of iridescent glass designed in 1878 by Richardson's. The vessel displays a dark bronze colour with purple, green, and gold metallic hues across an ovoid body, set upon a footed base with a short neck and an open rim. The surface has a crackled texture known as brain glass, showing a network of fine fissures beneath the iridescent metallic sheen, with no visible repairs. Practical dimensions measure 13.5 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 6 cm deep. Placed on a sideboard top, the vase serves as a decorative display object in a reception room, study, or hallway. The iridescent finish catches natural and artificial light, bringing nineteenth-century Victorian style to an interior scheme. The item stands stably on any flat surface, making it suitable for placement on a console table, mantelpiece, or bookshelf alongside other cabinet pieces.

Victorian bronze glass is a form of decorative art glass developed during the late nineteenth century, characterised by a dark, metallic iridescent coating designed to imitate patinated bronze metalwork.

The crackled texture was achieved by dipping the blown molten glass briefly into cold water to crack the outer layer before reheating and reworking it, while metallic salts were applied to create the iridescent surface layer.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-blown construction marks such as a polished pontil mark on the base, distinct metallic iridescence with purple or green hues, and heavy, high-quality lead glass weight.

Position the glass vessel near natural light sources or focused accent lighting on a dark wood sideboard or stone mantelpiece to highlight the reflective metallic surface.

Hand wash gently using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive liquid detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or immersion in hot water which could damage delicate surface treatments.
