A lacemakers lamp, also known as a globe de nacelle, was a lighting device used in the 18th century by lace workers. Water-filled glass globes were placed in front of an oil lamp to refract and concentrate candlelight onto the intricate work.

These pieces were typically hand-blown from lead glass or potash glass, often featuring pontil marks on the base and natural imperfections such as air bubbles and striations characteristic of early glassmaking.

Authentification relies on examining the glass composition, weight, wear patterns, and manufacturing characteristics such as a rough or polished pontil scar, uneven thickness, and period-specific glass patination.

This piece functions well as a sculptural tabletop object, placed on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or desk where natural light can pass through the clear glass to highlight its historic silhouette.

Antique glass should be washed gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, or sudden temperature changes to protect the fragile historic material.
