Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A mule chest is a hybrid form of storage furniture that emerged in the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain, combining the traditional lift-top lid of a blanket chest with one or more lower drawers for improved accessibility.

These chests were constructed using solid native hardwoods such as oak for durability and structural integrity, frequently incorporating secondary woods like pine or mahogany for panels, cross-banding, and decorative veneers.

Authentication involves examining hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, hand-forged or cast brass hardware, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and traditional tool marks left by early woodworking planes and saws.

Such substantial wooden pieces function effectively as focal points in living rooms, hallways, or bedrooms, providing functional linen or general storage while anchoring modern minimalist schemes with historical texture.

Maintenance requires keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent cracking, periodically applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood, and avoiding harsh chemical polishes.
