Edwardian silver vanity items, produced between 1901 and 1910, frequently feature elaborate repousse motifs inspired by earlier art periods, such as Joshua Reynolds cherub paintings, combined with high-craftsmanship glass bodies.

These containers typically pair heavy sterling silver lids, often hallmarked for cities like Birmingham or London, with blown or cased art glass bases, sometimes accented with enamel or gilt decoration.

Authenticity is verified by clear hallmark stamps on the silver lid denoting the makers mark, sterling standard, assay office, and date letter, alongside period-specific manufacturing traits in the glass.

Such decorative objects are typically displayed on open shelving, dressing tables, or bathroom counters to add metallic lustre and historic character to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires gentle cleaning of the silver with a non-abrasive polish while avoiding chemical contact with the glass body and gilt details to maintain the patina.
