This William and Mary period cabinet on stand dates from around 1700 and belongs to the English Country House style. The piece uses burr walnut, walnut and brass, displaying warm brown and golden figured tones across book-matched veneers. Elaborate hardware includes decorative brass escutcheons around keyholes and small drop handles on the two lower drawers, while the upper section has a deep cushion-moulded frieze drawer. Six barley-twist turned legs support the base, connected by curved shaped stretchers and finished with bun feet. Practical dimensions are 144 cm high, 84 cm wide and 52 cm deep. Position this impressive storage item in a living room, hallway or study to hold books, collections or tableware. The cabinet combines closed upper storage behind panelled double doors with accessible lower drawers, providing functional surface space and historic character. Regular dusting with a soft cloth preserves the timber finish, keeping the historic aesthetic intact within a modern interior setting.

Originating in late 17th-century Britain during the reign of William III and Mary II, this style reflects Dutch and Flemish influences characterised by complex timber veneers, bold barley-twist turnings, teardrop brass handles, and curving stretchers.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted using highly figured burr walnut veneers laid over oak or pine carcasses, accented with brass escutcheons and cast drop handles.

Authentic period examples feature hand-sawn oak drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct brass fittings with clear oxidisation, and original turned barley-twist supports linked by hand-shaped stretchers.

A cabinet on stand functions as a striking anchor piece in a hallway, study, or drawing room, where the warm timber figure contrasts against modern neutral walls and contemporary artwork.

Maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement; dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply clear beeswax sparingly along the timber grain.
