Neoclassical figural candlesticks emerged from a renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman art, heavily influenced by archaeological discoveries at Pompeii and Herculaneum during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

These pieces are typically crafted using cast bronze or brass, featuring a combination of dark patination and mercury gilding or ormolu accents to create high contrast.

Authentic pieces often display fine hand-chiselling on the cast metal surfaces, weight appropriate to solid bronze, and period-correct construction methods such as threaded rod assembly rather than modern welding.

They work well as a focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining table, paired with neutral modern surroundings to highlight their classical sculptural form.

Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid chemical polishes, abrasives, or moisture, which can damage the historic patina and gilding.
