Edwardian silver, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, frequently draws inspiration from earlier decorative epochs such as the Rococo, Louis XIV, and Neoclassical periods, characterised by elaborate repousse ornamentation, floral motifs, and scrollwork.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver, adhering to the strict British standard of 925 parts per thousand, often shaped using traditional techniques such as hand-raising, spinning, and detailed chasing or repousse work by skilled silversmiths.

Authentic pieces bear official British hallmark stamps, which typically include the standard mark for sterling silver (such as a lion passant), a town assay office mark, a date letter corresponding to the specific year of testing, and the makers mark.

An antique silver bowl works well as a textural focal point on a sleek sideboard, coffee table, or open shelving unit, contrasting effectively against minimalist surfaces or serving as a refined catch-all tray.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip the desirable oxidisation from recessed details.
