Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian sterling silver bowl stands on a circular pedestal base and dates to 1894. The piece displays a polished silver exterior with repousse scrollwork, chased floral details, and a crimped rim, alongside a gilded interior finish. Sheffield hallmarks and the silversmiths mark for the Atkin Brothers appear on the body, which exhibits no inscriptions or monograms. Measuring 12 cm across the top and 8 cm high to the rim, this decorative bowl suits placement upon a dining room sideboard or living room side table. It functions well for display or holding small items within an English country house interior.

FAQs

Late Victorian silver pieces produced during the late 19th century frequently feature intricate repousse decoration, scrollwork, and Rococo revival influence designed for formal dining presentation.

These items were typically crafted from sterling silver of 925 fineness using metal raising, hand-chasing, and repousse techniques to create raised motifs mounted onto a pedestal base.

Authentic British pieces bear a complete set of hallmarks including the lion passant for sterling quality, an assay office mark, a date letter, and a registered makers mark.

A footed silver bowl serves as a central element on a sideboard top, console table, or dining table, placed individually or used to hold dry decorative items.

Polish gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver foam, avoiding abrasive chemicals, and store in a low-humidity environment wrapped in tarnish-inhibiting cloth.
