Gothic furniture from the fifteenth century is characterised by architectural motifs such as pointed arches, tracery, linenfold panels, and heavy frame-and-panel construction.

These pieces were predominantly built from slow-grown European oak, utilising pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-riven boards, and forged iron hardware.

Authenticity is determined by examining tool marks left by adzes and pit saws, timber shrinkage patterns, hand-forged iron nails or hinges, and the absence of modern mechanical fastenings.

A medieval cabinet serves as a strong focal point and can be balanced in a contemporary space by pairing it with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and clean architectural lines.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and occasionally treating the dry wood with traditional beeswax rather than modern chemical polishes.
