John Morse of Malmesbury Small Regency Oak & Mahogany Grandfather Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

Charming Small (83.25in) Oak with Attractive “Tiger Graining”, Mahogany Banding & String Inlay Decoration. Canted Corners to the Long Trunk & Raised on Bracket Feet.

The Attractive Enamelled Dial & 30 Hour Movement by John Morse of Malmesbury. The Top Arch with Oriental Scene of A Chinaman Holding A Foliage Sprig. (Probably A Sprig From a Tea Plant). The Centre of the Dial Decorated with a Bird and the 4 Corners with Gilt Anchor Decorations. Maybe the First Owner of This Clock was a Sailor Involved in the Tea Trade from China to England.

John Morse is listed by Brian Loomes as Circa 1830 at Malmesbury where he was also a Silversmith and Cutler and as such would probably have attracted a “better” quality of customers.

The Movement has been Checked, Serviced & Tested. Offered in Good & Full Antique Working Order.

Height 83.25in or 211cm

Hood 51cm wide and 23cm deep

Base 47cm and 23cm deep

Please email Robert or call him on 07899 058752 to Discuss Viewing / Collection. Should you need Delivery / Setup, Please Supply your Postcode for Options. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
