Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The porcelain dial is most unusual with a raised navy-blue and gilded chapter-ring, whilst the “spade” hands, which are original, are also gilded. Signed to the backplate: E. M. & Co., Paris. Perfect working order. circa 1880-1890. 7.5 ins (19cms) with handle up.

E. Maurice et Cie, were renowned Carriage Clock makers with workshops at 75, Rue Charlot, Paris. The company was known for producing fine, often decorative clocks of the period, and exhibited carriage clocks at the great 1889 Paris Exposition.
